Pennsylvania Business Leader Elected to U.S. Chamber Board of Directors


High Companies Chairman S. Dale High Selected for Board Service


WASHINGTON, DC—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of directors announced the appointment of S. Dale High to serve as a member of the board for 2009. High is the chairman of Lancaster, PA-based High Companies and has a strong record for his business achievements as well as philanthropic efforts.

"Dale brings an excellent combination of both business and civic leadership experience to this position," said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. "He will be highly valuable as a leader for the Chamber and its members."

As a member of the board of directors, High will help tackle issues facing state and local chambers, associations, and other business groups, help advance pro-growth policies and programs, and advise senior Chamber staff on a wide range of topics.

Following his graduation from Elizabethtown College in 1963, High immediately joined his family-owned business. Subsequent to becoming chairman in 1977, he guided the expansion of the family business to employ more than 2,500 workers in businesses including High Steel Structures Inc., High Steel Service Center LLC, High Concrete Group LLC, High Safety Consulting Services Ltd., High Associates Ltd., High Construction Company, Greenfield Architects Ltd., and High Hotels Ltd.

High is the recipient of the 1999 Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry's Business Leader of the Year Award. Other awards include being named Central Penn Business Journal's 2006 Corporate Citizen of the Year, the Wharton Enterprising Families Initiative Family Business of the Year in 2002, and Ernst & Young's National Entrepreneur of the Year, Real Estate and Construction, in 1999. High is also the founder of The S. Dale High Center for Family Business at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, and has received Honorary Doctorate degrees from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology (2002) and Elizabethtown College (1993).
