U.S. Chamber Announces Senior Government Official to Advance Campaign for Free Enterprise
Gunderson served for more than 15 years at highest levels of government
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today announced that Brian Gunderson has been hired to spearhead the organization's recently announced Campaign for Free Enterprise.
"Gunderson's leadership and experience will be instrumental to the success of this campaign," said Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. "He has a proven track record of providing strategic direction and expertise on issues that are critical to the business community."
In the new position, Gunderson will coordinate the key elements of the campaign including strategy, communications, advertising, grassroots, educational outreach, and events. He will work with business, academic, trade association and government leaders, as well as other stakeholders to promote the Chamber's new program.
Gunderson has served at the highest levels of the U.S. government, most recently as chief of staff to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and chief of staff to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick (now World Bank President). He has broad experience in trade, tax and economic policy, national security issues, management of large organizations, government relations, and communications.
In addition to his experience in the executive branch, Gunderson spent 17 years on Capitol Hill as a policy analyst, press secretary, and ultimately, chief of staff to House Majority Leader Dick Armey, working with all House committees to develop and advance legislation.
Gunderson was educated at Marquette University and at the University of Dallas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1982 to 1988.
