U.S. Chamber Applauds President Obama's Support of U.S.-U.A.E. Civil Nuclear Agreement
Agreement Will Support U.S. Security, Create Jobs, and Increase Trade
WASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Chamber of Commerce applauds President Barack Obama's action today notifying Congress of his intent to enter into the U.S.-U.A.E. Civil Nuclear Agreement. The Chamber urges Congress to follow the President's lead in order to improve U.S. security, create jobs, and increase trade.
"The President's decision will put Americans to work and will assure the world that the U.A.E.'s use of nuclear energy is secure and transparent," said Danny Sebright, president of the Chamber's U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council. "The greatest beneficiary of this agreement are the American workers."
According to the newly released study from the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, the commercial opportunities from an agreement could exceed $40 billion in value and create well over 10,000 U.S. jobs.
"The U.A.E. has been clear in their civilian nuclear energy ambitions, while renouncing uranium enrichment and fuel reprocessing," Sebright said. "They have met all international nonproliferation standards and stand as an important model for the region and the world at a time when global interest in nuclear energy is on the rise."
"The spotlight now shifts to Congress where they will have a very real opportunity to put Americans to work," he said. "Inaction on the Hill, at a time when other nations are looking to work with the U.A.E., will lead to jobs going elsewhere. Americans are capable of doing the work and Congress should allow them to."
