Business Community Welcomes Emphasis on Public Private Partnership

WASHINGTON, D.C.–The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its affiliate, the Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC), issued the following statement in response to the Senate's recent confirmation of Daniel W. Yohannes to lead the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

"We welcome an experienced and capable leader like Daniel W. Yohannes to lead the MCC team," said Myron Brilliant, senior vice president for International at the U.S. Chamber. "His leadership in the banking industry and in the private sector makes him an excellent choice to serve as one the nation's leading international economic advisers."

"The MCC has made great strides in making the connection between the private sector and international development agencies," Brilliant said. "The Chamber looks forward to working with Mr. Yohannes and his team to help further the role of the private sector in international economic development."

Stephen Jordan, senior vice president and executive director of the BCLC, praised Yohannes confirmation. "We are pleased that Mr. Yohannes has been tapped to lead this important agency. Given his experience with the private sector, we welcome his leadership at MCC and look forward to building on our strong working relationship," he said.

"Businesses play a large role in delivering foreign assistance, but they need strategic partners too," Jordan said. "We are committed to working with MCC to promote effective public private partnerships for emerging market development."

BCLC, a 501(c) 3 affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is a resource and voice for business' social and philanthropic interests.
