U.S. Chamber Applauds Justice Department Focus on Procedural Fairness
Calls for Antitrust Authorities to Examine Internal Practices
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Sean Heather, executive director of the U.S. Chamber's Global Regulatory Cooperation Project (GRPC), today commented on a speech given by Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust Christine Varney to the International Bar Association.
"The Chamber is pleased that the Department of Justice has seized on the issue of procedural fairness in antitrust cases and has chosen to spotlight its importance.
"Increasingly, procedural practices relating to antitrust investigations, decisions, and appeals are coming under greater scrutiny and creating concern. The Chamber supports Varney's call for antitrust authorities, international organizations, and the antitrust community to begin discussions on this critical issue.
"Through the GRPC, the Chamber has made procedural fairness in antitrust cases a top priority stands ready to help lead and contribute to the development of international best practices for procedural fairness in antitrust cases."
The GRPC seeks to align trade, regulatory, and competition policy in support of open and competitive markets.
