U.S. Chamber President Welcomes Chinese National People's Congress Chairman Wu
Donohue Highlights the Importance of Increased Dialogue in Addressing Common Challenges Facing Nations
WASHINGTON, DC—At a dinner honoring the Chinese National People's Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue highlighted the importance of U.S.-China commercial relations and called on leaders from both countries to expand their dialogue on critical issues facing their economies.
"Chairman Wu's visit represents the continuation of an important dialogue between the United States and China that is taking place at many levels—among our political leaders, our respective legislative bodies, and our business communities," Donohue said. "Tonight, we celebrate our shared commitment to continuing to expand our dialogue."
Wu was hosted by Donohue and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI), and Representatives Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Rick Larsen (D-WA) at a dinner hosted by the U.S. Chamber.
"We look forward to constructively addressing the inevitable challenges that will arise among friends in a massive and rapidly growing economic and commercial relationship," Donohue said. "We share common challenges as global leaders of fixing our economies, delivering health care to our people, securing supplies of energy and commodities, and fighting terrorism."
