U.S. Chamber: Report Shows Lawsuit Abuse Is a Widespread Problem
Chamber Calls for Adoption of Reforms in Nation’s Worst Problem Litigation Jurisdictions
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, made the following statement regarding today’s release of the report Judicial Hellholes 2010/2011 by the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA):
“I commend ATRA for shining a spotlight on some of the nation’s most troublesome jurisdictions for lawsuit abuse. This report outlines many problems in these jurisdictions and should serve as a reminder to courts and state legislatures of the continued need for action.
“At a time of high unemployment and sluggish economic growth, Americans are demanding policies that will lead to more jobs, not more lawsuits. Enacting pro-growth legal reforms in the nation’s worst problem litigation jurisdictions would be a good place to start.”
ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
