John Ruan III Elected Vice Chairman of U.S. Chamber

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors today elected John Ruan III as its vice chairman for 2010. Ruan, the chairman, CEO, and director of Ruan Transportation Management, takes on the role held by Thomas D. Bell, chairman and CEO of Cousins Properties Inc. and the newly named chairman of the Chamber’s board of directors.

“Mr. Ruan brings a wealth of experience in corporate management and governance to the Chamber,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “In these challenging times, experienced leadership like John’s is vital to helping the business community and Americans to get back on their feet.”

In addition to overseeing Ruan Transportation Management Systems, Ruan Transport Corp., and Ruan Logistics Corp., he is director and chairman of Iowa Export-Import Trading Co. and The World Food Prize Foundation; director, chairman and president of City Center Corp.; director of Seven Hundred Grand Association; trustee of John Ruan Foundation Trust; and director, chairman, president and CEO of Ruan Center Corp., Ruan Car Sales, Inc., and Ruan, Inc.

Outside of the transportation business, John is the director of the National Chamber Foundation (NCF), and is the chairman, president and CEO of the bank holding company, BTC Financial Corp. He is also chairman and director for BTC Financial’s subsidiary, Bankers Trust Company NA.

Ruan also serves as a director of Hubbell Realty Co., Iowa Business Council, Greater Des Moines Partnership, Downtown Community Alliance, Chief Executives Organization, and Castle Pines Golf Club. He is trustee of Culver Educational Foundation, and immediate past chairman of The Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and The Greater Des Moines YMCA.

Ruan received his B.S. in Business Administration from Northwestern University in 1965, and is a 1978 graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

Ruan has been married to his wife, Janis, for 40 years. They have two children, John Ruan IV and Rachel R. McLean, and three grandchildren.
