U.S. Chamber Welcomes Cyber Security Legislation

Helps Spur Critical Conversation about Securing Cyberspace

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today welcomed the introduction of the "Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010," sponsored by members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, including chairman Joseph Lieberman, ranking member Susan Collins, and Senator Thomas Carper. The bill is one of two comprehensive bills that contributes to the important topic of securing our nation's cyber security.

"Cyber security threats are growing in scope and sophistication and causing significant challenges for businesses of all sizes," said Ann Beauchesne, the Chamber's vice president of National Security and Emergency Preparedness.

"Members of the Committee have an opportunity to strengthen federal information systems as well as partnerships between the public sector and the private sector, which owns and operates the vast majority of our nation's critical infrastructure," said Beauchesne. "The Chamber is analyzing the bill and its impact on the business community. We look forward to continuing a productive dialogue with the committee to strengthen and protect the American economy."
