Gallup Poll Reaffirms U.S. Chamber's Jobs Agenda

Ahead of Employment Report, Chamber Calls on Congress, Administration to Remain Focused on Job Creation

WASHINGTON, D.C.—With unemployment remaining around 10%, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce pointed to the latest Gallup poll, highlighting that hiring is as weak as it has ever been over the past year and that nearly one in five Americans is underemployed. This evidence showcases why Washington must remain focused on putting Americans back to work.

"These numbers reaffirm the Chamber's focus on promoting policies that create jobs," said Stan Anderson, managing director of the U.S. Chamber's Campaign for Free Enterprise. "It should be a sign to both Congress and the administration that now is the time to be consistently focused on creating jobs through free enterprise."

As part of its Campaign for Free Enterprise, the Chamber recently released a Strategy for New American Jobs that offers a six point plan to help create 20 million American jobs over the next decade. This will restore the more than 7 million jobs lost to the current recession and create the 13 million new jobs to meet the demands of the growing nation in the next 10 years.

"Only the private sector can put Americans back to work in the long-term but this hiring will not happen until businesses feel a sense of certainty from Washington," Anderson said.

American Free Enterprise. Dream Big. is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's comprehensive, multiyear campaign to support free enterprise through national advertising; grassroots advocacy; citizen, community, and youth engagement; and research and ideas leadership.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
