U.S. Chamber Endorses Grayson for Senate

"A Strong Record of Fighting for Businesses in Kentucky," Miller Says

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsement of Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson for U.S. Senate, praising his record of supporting the state's businesses and workers.

"We're endorsing Grayson because he has a record of standing up for the people of Kentucky," said Bill Miller, the U.S. Chamber's senior vice president and political director. "He is an invaluable leader on important business issues. We're confident Grayson will continue to look out for the interests of business while in the U.S. Senate."

As Kentucky's Secretary of State, Grayson credentials every business throughout the state. One of his signature acts was to digitize the procedure, streamlining the process in order to reduce red tape and ease business compliance issues. Grayson has also employed "business efficiency principles" in reducing the budget of his office by cutting waste, and has signaled his intentions to do the same in Washington.

A strong proponent of fiscal responsibility and competitive tax rates, Grayson supports ending the Alternative Minimum Tax and repealing the death tax and marriage penalty. He opposes onerous new energy taxes on Kentucky's job creators while supporting malpractice reform and small business risk pooling.

"On issues ranging from lowering taxes to slashing frivolous lawsuits, Kentucky's businesses and workers will have no better friend in Washington than Trey Grayson," Miller said.

The U.S. Chamber plans to play a major role nationwide in the 2010 elections, endorsing candidates who have demonstrated support for business priorities and will work to advance a pro-growth agenda in Congress. In 2008, 213 of the 265 Chamber-endorsed candidates (81%) were elected.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
