U.S. Chamber Welcomes Launch of AmCham Afghanistan
'This AmCham Represents Increased U.S. Private Sector Engagement in Afghanistan,' Overby Says
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today welcomed the creation of the American Chamber of Commerce of Afghanistan (AmCham Afghanistan), an organization that will seek to promote the interests of the U.S. private sector in Afghanistan and enhance commercial relations between the two countries.
"The creation of the AmCham represents increased U.S. private sector engagement in Afghanistan," said Tami Overby, the Chamber's vice president for Asia. "We applaud efforts to encourage sustainable economic development in Afghanistan and increase investment and trade opportunities that could help promote social stability and security in the region."
The Chamber will remain engaged with AmCham Afghanistan as it works to earn accreditation to join the larger AmCham family and as its members deepen economic relations between the two countries. There are currently 113 AmChams in 100 countries accredited by the Chamber.
AmCham Afghanistan is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization dedicated to fostering mutual cooperation between the Unites States and Afghanistan through trade, commerce, and investment. The AmCham will focus on initiatives to promote sustainable economic development in Afghanistan and will seek to promote corporate social responsibility among its members and the greater business community.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
