U.S. Chamber Comments on October’s Positive Jobs Data
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following today’s report that 159,000 new jobs were created in the private sector in October, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Chief Economist, Dr. Martin Regalia, issued the following statement:
“The employment data released this morning was a marked improvement over what we had become accustomed to, with 159,000 jobs created in the private sector in October and significant upward revisions to the last two months. While an improvement, the increase was not enough to drive the unemployment rate down, which remains at 9.6 percent.
“While this report was welcome news, the rate of job growth is still far too slow to reemploy those displaced during the recent recession. It’s imperative that we embrace pro-growth policies in the near-term, including preventing tax increases on small business owners and individuals, and moving forward on free trade agreements.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
