U.S. Chamber Highlights Emerging Investment Opportunities in Iraq
Milestones in Iraq Demonstrate Job-Creating Opportunities for U.S. Business Community
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted an Iraq Business Forum today, emphasizing the numerous business opportunities awaiting investors in Iraq. Chamber experts and Dr. Sami Al Araji, Chairman of the Iraq National Investment Commission, discussed how the budding stability in Iraq has made it a lucrative emerging market for business investment.
“The formation of Iraq’s central government demonstrates the long-term opportunity presented to the American business community,” said Myron Brilliant, senior vice president of International Affairs at the U.S. Chamber. “This step forward has given investors every reason to remain optimistic about Iraq’s economic prospects and the American jobs that trade with Iraq can bring.”
Dr. Sami emphasized the prospects available to the American business community now that the Iraq central government has been formed and the U.S. has handed over control of combat operations.
In the past three years, the Chamber’s U.S.-Iraq Business Initiative has been the voice of U.S. companies seeking business opportunities in Iraq. As a part of its continued effort, the Initiative will focus on a broad range of activities geared towards enhancing the commercial relationship between the U.S. and Iraq in 2011.
“At today’s forum the American business community learned more about the opportunities and resources awaiting them in Iraq,” Brilliant said. “These prospects will only grow as Iraq continues to chart its course towards growth and development.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
