U.S. Chamber Pleased that Malaysia Is Joining Trans-Pacific Trade Talks

‘This is an important step in expanding trade with one of the world’s fastest growing regions,’ Overby Says

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Asia, Tami Overby, issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Malaysia is being admitted into the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade talks:

“The Chamber is delighted that Malaysia is joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade talks. This is an important step in expanding trade with one of the world’s fastest growing regions. The move will add the 16th largest U.S. trading partner to the only regional trade negotiation where the United States is at the table. Malaysia’s inclusion in this high level agreement will open up sectors to U.S. companies – such as financial services and government procurement – that have long been closed to American firms. Participation in the TPP will help promote the domestic economic reforms in Malaysia which Prime Minister Najib Razak launched after taking office last year.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
