U.S. Chamber Applauds American Leadership in Asia-Pacific Talks
Overby Calls America’s Leadership Vital to Achieving High Standard Rules for Trade and Investment
BIG SKY, MT—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Vice President for Asia, Tami Overby, issued the following statement today after joining the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) meetings with trade ministers as well as U.S. and foreign business delegations:
“America’s leadership in these trade talks remains vital if we are going to achieve the high standard rules for trade and investment that our companies need to compete.
“We applaud the statements from APEC ministers on the importance of trans-Pacific and global trade, on trade facilitation in the Asia-Pacific region, and the joint ministers statement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks.
“APEC remains the most important forum for building consensus on next generation trade issues in the Asia-Pacific, which is one of the most dynamic markets for U.S. companies. As host of this year’s meetings, the United States has renewed APEC’s commitment to private sector participation and set an ambitious agenda for furthering regional economic integration. We are pleased that so many important issues, including supply chain connectivity, regulatory coherence, food safety, and green growth are being addressed.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
