U.S. Chamber Statement on Introduction of Bipartisan Bill to Update Regulatory Process
‘Legislation Would Restore Balance to the Regulatory Process,’ Donohue says
WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement today following the introduction of the bipartisan Regulatory Accountability Act of 2011:
“Given the precarious condition of America’s economy and continued weakness in job creation, the Chamber believes that regulations must be narrowly tailored, supported by strong and credible data and evidence, and impose the least burden possible, while still implementing Congressional intent.
“The Regulatory Accountability Act would restore needed checks and balances to the regulatory process and give job creators the certainty they need. The fact that its introduction is both bicameral and bipartisan demonstrates the growing understanding that there needs to be real and significant regulatory reform.
“The Chamber applauds Senators Rob Portman, Mark Pryor and Susan Collins, as well as Congressmen Lamar Smith, Collin Peterson, and Howard Coble, and we look forward to working with them to win passage of this important bill.”
