U.S. Chamber Endorses Lugar for Senate
National Political Director Applauds Lugar’s Record of Fighting for American Free Enterprise
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today announced its endorsement of Senator Dick Lugar for re-election to the U.S. Senate, praising his record of fighting for Indiana families and businesses.
“We’re endorsing Senator Lugar because of his proven record and ability to get things done in support of Indiana job creation and economic growth,” said Rob Engstrom, the U.S. Chamber’s senior vice president and national political director.
During Lugar’s tenure, he’s consistently voted to increase domestic energy production, including support for construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. He has also protected the interests of job creators by opposing measures like Obamacare and tax hikes on small businesses.
“With small businesses in Indiana and across the nation facing prolonged uncertainty over rising energy costs, pending regulations and the threat of new taxes, we need leaders in the United States Senate who will fight through the gridlock,” Engstrom said. “Senator Lugar is a demonstrated leader who has shown his commitment to protecting and advancing the interests of Indiana’s job creators.”
In 2012, the U.S. Chamber will execute the largest voter education campaign in the organization’s 100-year history. The Chamber’s effort will help ensure that voters know where candidates stand on issues important to the business community.
In the 2010 elections, 236 of the 276 Chamber-endorsed candidates were elected.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
