U.S. Chamber Leads Business Delegation to Mexico
Meetings with Local, Regional Business Leaders and Government Officials to Focus on Trade Policy, Bilateral Investment
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, with leading members of its U.S.-Mexico Leadership Initiative, today began a series of meetings during a business delegation trip to Mexico City, Mexico. February 11 through 13, the Chamber’s Senior Vice President for International Affairs Myron Brilliant is leading senior executives from 20 prominent U.S. companies in an effort to identify key investment opportunities in the country and to strengthen the bilateral business climate.
“The U.S. and Mexico already enjoy a close partnership, but we hope to enhance that relationship for the benefit of both countries by expanding upon existing business opportunities,” said Brilliant. “Our goal is to engage in a free and frank dialogue with government officials about the clear, mutual economic benefits of enhanced regulatory cooperation and border trade facilitation.”
While in Mexico, the U.S. Chamber and participating executives are meeting with federal and regional government officials, as well as Mexican business leaders to promote pro-trade and pro-growth economic policies in both countries. The delegation trip aims to strengthen U.S.-Mexican bilateral relations and improve the business climate for U.S. exporters in Mexico.
“It is important for U.S. businesses to enhance not only their relationships with Mexican companies but also with government leaders so that they can identify new opportunities for exports and bilateral engagement,” Brilliant continued. “These meetings will allow American companies to connect with Mexican leaders, in both the government and private sectors, to ensure that those opportunities are identified, explored and come to fruition in the future. At the same time, we want to enhance bilateral efforts and discuss ways to do so with Mexican companies.”
The U.S. Chamber launched its U.S.-Mexico Leadership Initiative in 2010 to give corporate members a platform to articulate the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship both to their businesses and the economic strength of both countries. The Initiative has been well received by both governments and has contributed to a renewed sense of bilateral cooperation on issues of strategic economic importance to both partners. The delegation will coordinate closely with AmCham Mexico and the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
