to Meaningful Employment Opportunities

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program announced today it will host a job fair for veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and military spouses  during the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Veterans Small Business Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. The fair will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the America’s Center in the midst of the conference, which runs from August 6-8, 2013.

“The VA has been a tremendous supporter of our efforts and we are honored to host the Hiring Our Heroes job fair in the same arena as VA’s premier small business event,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “This event will provide a perfect opportunity to work together to bring both career resources and opportunities to our nation’s veterans and military spouses.”

“Veterans make excellent employees – they stand ready to help rebuild the middle class and strengthen America,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.  “VA is grateful for the assistance it has received from the Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes program to help veterans gain meaningful employment. VA has worked alongside the Chamber at hiring events across the country, and we look forward to a successful event in St. Louis this August.”

The National Veterans Small Business Conference is an annual event for veterans to network, learn, and grow their businesses. Hiring Our Heroes supported last year’s successful event in Detroit.

Hiring Our Heroes launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce working with a vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors  goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day. To date, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 520 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. More than 18,400 veterans and military spouses have obtained jobs.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USCCF) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce dedicated to strengthening America’s long-term competitiveness by addressing developments that affect our nation, our economy, and the global business environment.
