Chamber Outlines Long-Term Agenda

Donohue's Anniversary Inspires Vision

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, on the occasion of President and CEO Tom Donohue's 10th anniversary as head of the organization, is charting a multiyear agenda to enhance America's competitiveness. The major components of this agenda are listed below.

Expand the Workforce. The Chamber will lead efforts to expand and improve the pool of available and qualified workers through comprehensive immigration and visa reform and better education, especially in math and science.

Boost Energy Supplies. The Chamber will support policies to help create affordable and abundant energy supplies from all sources-oil, gas, coal, hydro, alternative fuels and technologies, and nuclear power. Improving energy efficiency is also a priority.

Rebuild America's Infrastructure. The Chamber will significantly upgrade its efforts to build the case for new investments in transportation, logistics, energy, and telecommunications systems.

Reduce Litigation. The Chamber will continue its campaign in the states, the courts, and on the federal level to eliminate frivolous and abusive lawsuits.

Expand Trade and Foreign Investment. The Chamber will pursue a vigorous international program to open markets, protect intellectual property, and illustrate these benefits for American workers, families, and consumers.

Strengthen Capital Markets. To attract more investment and to encourage greater innovation and risk taking, the Chamber will fight to rid the U.S. capital markets of excessive litigation, regulation, and interference from special interest groups.

Secure Health Care, Pension, and Retirement Systems. The Chamber will push for policies that meet the health and retirement needs of American workers without bankrupting businesses or younger generations.
