School Board Candidate Questionaire

School boards play a unique role in school district governance and provide a venue for communities to have democratic input into local education decisions. To effectively execute their responsibilities, school board members must clearly understand district governance and have a strong commitment to advancing student outcomes. Because the majority of school boards in the United States are elected, it is up to voters to select the most informed and competent individuals to !ll these roles. The Unfinished Agenda

For the past year, more than a dozen U.S. financial regulators have scrambled to write hundreds of new rules to implement the hastily adopted Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act), the most sweeping financial regulatory legislation in nearly 75 years. Enterprising States

Over a year and a half into the recovery, the condition of the American economy is far from satisfactory. Unemployment remains high, job creation meager, and American workforce participation has dropped to near record depths — the lowest rate in a quarter of a century. The U.S. will need to create 20 million jobs in this decade to recover from the 7 million lost in the Great Recession and 13 million needed for the country’s growing population.

Steps to a 21st Century U.S.-Mexico Border

The United States and Mexico share a border of nearly 2,000 miles, a cultural heritage, and a desire to grow both our economies through cooperation and hard work. Of course, it is immigration and, more recently, drug-related violence that so often dominate any conversation related to the U.S.-Mexico border. However, economic considerations, such as trade facilitation, travel and infrastructure, are equally important.

The New Restatement: Blunting This Potentially Dangerous Trial Lawyer Weapon

To most American judges, especially those on state appellate courts, the Restatement of Torts is the Holy Grail. Judges follow the Restatement as if it were gospel. It is viewed as an objective product, the consensus of the best minds in the nation regarding what is or should be the best rule of tort law. All this is surprising because Restatements are created by a totally private group, albeit a prestigious one: the American Law Institute (ALI), which is composed of noted law professors, judges, and private practitioners. ALI’s products have garnered such respect because they are usually the result of very careful study and have a degree of objectivity,
reason and quality about them.
