Increased trade is “one of the best ways to drive economic growth and job creation here at home,” John Murphy, the U.S. Chamber’s Senior Vice President for International Policy, told PBS Newshour.

“The playing field for American companies and the workers they employ isn’t always level,” Murphy said, “They face trade barriers—tariffs often in the double digits—and non-tariff barriers that shut out Made in U.S.A. products. Trade agreements are the one way we have to tear down those barriers.”

In light of the Senate beginning debate on renewing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), Murphy, talked about why the U.S. needs new trade agreements and tackled some of the myths about trade agreements and negotiations used by trade opponents.
