Ambitions

In 2017, Target introduced a new climate policy with early goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from operations and the energy used to power them. The company is increasing its goals and extending them across the entire supply chain, aiming to cut emissions 30% by 2030.

The key will be to unify suppliers around these same goals, whether they are working with raw materials that create products or manufacturing and transporting those products.

Target will continue to ramp up investments in renewable energy and energy saving efforts. For example, the company is installing LED lights in buildings. The Texas wind power project offsets the electricity use of 60 area stores. Target is adding solar rooftop panels at 500 locations by 2020.

Innovation

Efforts have been recognized:

  • Target has been named the top U.S. corporate solar installer twice and is a three-time ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year.
  • Target will work with suppliers to transition to renewable energy sources and implement emissions reduction projects.
