AHPs: What’s this new opportunity?


With the finalization of a Department of Labor regulation in the Spring of 2018, small businesses and their employees now have an opportunity to purchase and enroll in the same type of health coverage that larger businesses provide their employees. 

Now, local, state, and metro chambers, along with certain other associations, are able to offer Association Health Plans to the employees of member businesses. The coverage provided by these new AHPs is subject to all the consumer protections that the Affordable Care Act created for health plans sold in the large group market.

As a longstanding advocate for the expansion of Association Health Plans, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce believes these AHPs will offer more affordable comprehensive health coverage to small businesses.
