Self-described spiritual rap artist Jelani “JClay” Clay is a champion for changing limiting belief systems, especially through the healing power of music. He’s worked with music his entire life, but didn’t know the depths it would lead him to in terms of his relationship with mental health.

“I've always sought answers to life's seemingly unanswerable questions,” said Clay. “Through years of self-development and searching, I found what I was looking for. It changed everything, including the kind of music I made.”

His style of music changed towards deepening the connection between the conscious and subconscious mind in order to build positivity through music centered on repeating affirmations. His goal is to help steer people away from untrue thoughts that could keep them from living a full life.

“The words from songs... affect us whether we realize it or not,” explained Clay. “I could no longer make music that deepens beliefs in that which does not serve us.”

Clay was inspired to create JClay Cares for exactly this reason — that we as human beings have the power to shape our future through what we listen to.

Always head in the direction of your goals. If you get stopped, just know it's temporary, and then keep going when the light is green.

Empowering the next generation through music

Clay believes that music and repetition help solidify beliefs in the mind. There are strong studies that confirm this, especially in children at learning age. Music can help children through rhythm and rhyme to remember daily tasks or further their education.

“We see the world through the eyes of our beliefs, and our beliefs are just thoughts (words) we've repeated over and over,” said Clay. “Music takes this repetition to another level. So it's important to listen to music that aligns with your life goals.”

Clay says this connection with music can help children thrive by listening to songs that bring them to a positive and present moment. This inspired him to co-found Every Child Wins, a children’s educational music company using the power of affirmations in the songs created especially for children.

“Music makes the memorization process easier,” Clay said. “You may not remember what you had for lunch last week, but you can easily recall the words and melody to a childhood song you haven't heard in years.”

Every Child Wins attempts to instill education, problem-solving, and confidence in children by creating custom songs to benefit children of all ages. These same values of problem-solving and confidence can also help young entrepreneurs who experience roadblocks or setbacks.

“Always head in the direction of your goals,” said Clay. “If you get stopped, just know it's temporary, and then keep going when the light is green.”
