In 2008, after a call for action by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (“Chamber”), the House and Senate passed accompanying resolutions acknowledging the importance of workplace wellness.  The accompanying resolutions (H. Con. Res. 405 and S. Res. 703) recognized the first full week of April as “National Workplace Wellness Week.”  Since 2009, the Chamber has hosted an annual event to kick-off “National Workplace Wellness Week.”

This year to commemorate National Workplace Wellness Week, the Chamber’s event - "Innovations in Workplace and Community Wellness: Navigating the New Terrain” – will be held on April 7th from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at U.S. Chamber of Commerce Headquarters in Washington D.C.

This event will highlight the convergence of workplace and community wellness initiatives with an emphasis on understanding how the next generation of wellness programs will be impacted by recent implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, technological advancements, and changing demographics, while also exploring how health systems are working in their communities to impact lifestyle choices and address health disparities. This forum will also discuss strategies employers are using to incent employees to affect behavior change, and the interplay between incentive-based wellness programs and anti-discrimination laws.
