FAQ’s for U.S. Chamber of Commerce Visitors during construction

On August 26, 2019, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced the beginning of an 18-month restoration project of its historic Washington, DC, headquarters. During the restoration, the full exterior of the 97-year-old building will undergo detailed maintenance and preservation services. This historic renovation will ensure that we can carry our mission forward over the next 100 years.

The Chamber’s headquarters was built in 1922 by the renowned architect Cass Gilbert and named a National Historic Landmark in 1992. Annually, we host 2,500 meetings and events here gathering over 65,000 participants. The building is also home to the Chamber’s 500 person team that works tirelessly on behalf of American business. Across the next 18 months, the Chamber will embark on a façade restoration project to ensure the health and safety of our building for the next 100 years. During your visit to the Chamber, we invite you to take a moment to appreciate the unique architecture and interiors throughout our historic home.

Below are some tips on how to visit the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during the restoration.

The guest entrance will remain on H Street, NW, in between Connecticut Avenue and 16th Street. There will be scaffolding over the entrance during much of construction, but the entrance will remain safe and accessible.

Is the building ADA accessible while under construction?

Yes, our entrance on I “Eye” Street adjacent to Blackfinn Restaurant is ADA compliant with a ramp leading to elevators which can access all floors. If you need to access this entrance, please work with your Chamber contact to get appropriate access.

Will I experience delays arriving to the building during construction?

Guest arrival to the building should not be impacted, but we always recommend arriving 10-15 minutes prior to the meeting start time to allow for check-in.

By Car: The Chamber does not have a dedicated parking garage; there are multiple public garages in the surrounding block, including on I “eye” street behind the building.

By Metro: The building is a block from the Farragut West (Orange and Blue Lines) and Farragut North (Red Line) Metro stops.

By Rideshare: Use the Chamber’s main entrance on 1615 H Street, NW as the pickup and drop-off location.
