TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

We strongly urge your support for S. 1982, the “Save Our Seas 2.0 Act,” which is slated for consideration today on the House floor. This bipartisan legislation, led by Senators Sullivan (R-AK), Whitehouse(D-RI), and Menendez (D-NJ) and Reps. Bonamici (D-OR-1) and Young (R-AK), would provide important policy solutions to address the marine debris and plastic waste challenges facing the U.S. The Senate unanimously passed S. 1982 on January 9.

The business community is making investments to bolster recycling and solid waste infrastructure at home and abroad. The Save Our Seas 2.0 Act would leverage this commitment by establishing new federal funding mechanisms (e.g., a marine debris foundation), fostering international cooperation, and promoting new recycling infrastructure and plastics management approaches intended to limit marine debris.

Enactment of this legislation would help create the conditions necessary to enable continued private sector innovation. We again urge your support for S. 1982. Please let us know if you or your staff have any questions.

Thank you for your leadership.

Sincerely,

American Chemistry Council

U.S. Chamber of Commerce
