Dear Chairwoman Johnson and Ranking Member Lucas:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce applauds your bipartisan leadership on energy issues and writes in support of tomorrow’s full committee markup of H.R. 4091, the “ARPA-E Reauthorization Act of 2019.”

This legislation would authorize a substantial increase in funding for the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) through fiscal year 2024. The Chamber has long supported ARPA-E and its mission to catalyze transformational energy technologies to enhance the economic and energy security of the United States. Over the years, the agency has continued to demonstrate a record of strong management and successful grants for high-potential, high-impact energy projects that are too early for private investment.

Grants funded through ARPA-E hold great promise to not only reduce the cost and improve the performance of lower emitting and more efficient technologies, but potentially lead to truly game-changing technological breakthroughs that are necessary to address climate change and enhance America’s global economic competitiveness. We commend you for your important work to advance policies that will continue to make American energy cleaner and stronger, and we urge the Committee to report favorably H.R. 4091 to the full House.

Sincerely,

Neil L. Bradley
