U.S. Chamber Letter on the Guzman Nomination to be SBA Administrator

Tuesday, March 16, 2021 - 1:15pm

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the nomination of Isabel Guzman to be Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). We believe that she is well qualified for this position.

Isabel Guzman understands the importance of partnering with the private sector to aid small businesses.  As Director of California’s Office of the Small Business Advocate, she oversaw the Shop Safe Shop Local initiative, which shows how government can collaborate with chambers of commerce and other small business leaders to help communities that rely on employment, products, services, and other benefits derived from a healthy Main Street economy.

Ms. Guzman’s confirmation would provide leadership for an agency that is currently implementing the largest small business relief program in the history of the United States.  We are hopeful that you will advance her nomination expeditiously, and we hope that the President and this Committee will move forward with nominations for the Deputy Administrator and for the Chief Counsel for Advocacy.  The economic aid response to the COVID-19 pandemic is an all-hands-on-deck exercise and filling these important positions at SBA should be a priority.

The Chamber looks forward to working with Isabel Guzman as SBA Administrator.  We support her nomination and look forward to her expeditious confirmation.

Sincerely,

Suzanne P. Clark
