Dear Chair Cantwell and Ranking Member Wicker:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the nomination of Carlos Monje to be Under Secretary of Transportation for Policy at the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).

Mr. Monje would bring valuable experience in confronting the challenges and opportunities in modernizing America’s infrastructure. During his position as Assistant Secretary of Policy at USDOT, he oversaw the policy implementation of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act and has shown a track record of advocating for improving America’s infrastructure.

Mr. Monje can bring first-hand knowledge and practical experience to the task of improving America’s transportation networks. This includes his work on the Innovative Finance Bureau, now the Build America Bureau, which has facilitated the increased use of public-private partnerships.

Mr. Monje possesses academic, private sector, and public service experience which will all be much needed as the federal government works to expedite improvements in safety and mobility. With the federal focus on modernization as well as the reauthorization of surface transportation legislation, the Chamber believes Mr. Monje is the right person at the right time to serve in this key leadership position at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Thank you for scheduling the May 20 hearing, and we look forward to Mr. Monje’s expeditious confirmation.

Sincerely,

Neil L. Bradley
