U.S. Chamber Letter to the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission

To the Commissioners of the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission:

Thank you for your important leadership of the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission. We share your view that securing and confronting our adversaries in cyberspace requires a new strategic approach.

The Chamber recognizes and commends the significant work and thoughtfulness of the Commission and staff in developing the comprehensive final report and associated recommendations, which provide a critical foundation and a roadmap on how to better align the resources, capabilities, and authorities of the U.S. government and strengthen the relationship between the U.S. government and the private sector in enhancing U.S. cybersecurity.

We have valued the opportunity to engage with the Commission in this endeavor to provide input on how specific recommendations could enhance the cyber ecosystem, deepen operational collaboration, and better align the U.S. government’s posture to increase support to the private sector, and challenge adversaries in cyberspace.

Now that the Commission’s recommendations are being converted into legislative proposals, we look forward to working with you and your colleagues in Congress to ensure that these proposals protect national and economic security and provide the private sector with the support it needs on the front line of the cyber domain.

The wide spectrum of views from our members on the Solarium Commission’s proposals requires further engagement with Congress to ensure that any final legislation improves cybersecurity without imposing additional burdens or causing unintended consequences. To be clear, while do not expect to achieve agreement on every one of the Commission’s recommendations, the Chamber is committed to working with you in good faith as the process unfolds.
