Currently Mike is the Chief Operating Officer for Flynn Intel Group (FIG) Cyber. FIG Cyber provides training, exercises and consultation for senior non-technical executives to understand cyber risk management and governance. This facilitates board directors and C-Suite executives better understanding the role cyber security plays in business operations and overall business risk. We also emphasize the role senior executives must play in developing a corporate culture that elevates cyber security to an all employees are part of the solution awareness, similar to what has occurred in occupational safety as an all person responsibility.
Previously Mr. Coomes was the Director of International Cyber Security and Internet Governance for Department of Defense where he developed cooperative cyber security agreements between allied and partner nations, authored cyber security capability development plans and developed a cyber security resource guide to aid partners and allies with reference to best practices, training and standards for cyber security. He oversaw and guided development of DoD policies on Internet Governance and represented DoD at the interagency Internet Policy Board, ICANN and the ITU. In addition, Mr. Coomes was the national Chair for NATO’s Information Assurance and Cyber Defense Capability Panel. Prior to becoming a Department of Defense civilian, Mr. Coomes was a career naval officer, including assignments as a NATO staff officer and a Naval Attaché. Mike received a degree in East Asian Studies from the University of Kansas and a Masters in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School.
