NASA’s Artemis program must lead us back to the moon

Great nations and their leaders seek a claim upon history. Whatever the outcome of the coming election, the president will be given the awesome responsibility to send Americans back into deep space. And this time, to stay.

Arguably, this era of off-Earth human habitation began in 1984 when President Reagan directed NASA to build a permanently occupied space station. Incredibly, we are now nearing 20 years of continuous operation of the International Space Station with many more to come. With lessons learned from the ISS and the Apollo program, NASA is readying a return to the lunar surface.
