Monday, March 13, 2006 - 7:00pm

WASHINGTON, DC—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has hired Anita Barrera to serve as vice president for Business Information and Development (BID). In this post, Barrera will direct the Chamber's business development efforts, affinity programs, and marketing relationships.

"Barrera's mission is to grow the Chamber's affinity program that helps businesses market their products to other businesses," said J.P. Moery, senior vice president of Federation Relations. "She will help the Chamber identify and match our services with the needs of the business community and bring them closer together."

Prior to this appointment, Barrera worked at US Airways as managing director, Sales Development. She had also served as the airline's director of National Account Sales. She has held a variety of sales and marketing positions with American Airlines and was the marketing manager for new media with The Washington Post. Barrera has a B.A. in English and a Masters in Library and Information Sciences from Rutgers University, and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Maryland.

The Chamber's Business Information and Development Department provides affinity programs to small and medium-sized companies, including business and personal insurance products and negotiated discounts with vendors. Through its Statistics and Research Center, BID provides research and survey services and produces statistical reports on policy issues, customer satisfaction, and opinion polling. The center also conducts research on specific industries, or distinct segments within an established industry to determine that industry's size, productivity, and impact on the economy.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
