More Economic Freedom Key to Jobs and Growth, Says Donohue
WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech today on the economy:
“The policies of tax, spend, regulate, and mandate have trapped American workers, families, and entrepreneurs in the weakest economic recovery since World War II. Americans need more than a new speech. They need new policies.
“American prosperity is not created from the top down, bottom up, or middle out. It is created by economic freedom—the right of every American to work hard, strive for success, and chase a dream without the heavy hand of a command-and-control government.
“The president correctly underscored the importance of infrastructure, education, and immigration to our economic future. But in order to grow and create lasting private sector jobs, we must have more economic freedom and while reining in government spending, taxes, and debt.
“America’s extraordinary human talent and vast natural resources could propel a new era of robust economic growth and plentiful jobs. To accomplish that, we need economic policies that empower economic success, reward it, and celebrate it.”
