Alliance to Raise Awareness of the Importance of Manufacturing

WASHINGTON D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Manufactures Alliance/MAPI announced today that they established a joint initiative to advance awareness in the policy community about the importance of manufacturing to continuing prosperity and economic growth.

“The Chamber is in a unique position to tell the story of U.S. manufacturing to policymakers at all levels of the government, as well as to the entire business community,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber. “This is the beginning of a great collaboration, and together we can play an important role in helping create a more conducive environment for America’s manufacturers.”

“The manufacturing sector plays a vital role in boosting economic growth, and we need to get our message out to as wide an audience as possible,” said Stephen Gold, president and CEO of MAPI. “The Chamber offers the broadest network and is the ideal partner to share the story on how manufacturing can create jobs and economic growth.”

The new initiative will include several components, including:

  • MAPI will produce research papers each year for Chamber members, focusing on the state of manufacturing in this country, underlying challenges, and possible solutions.
  • The Chamber and MAPI will co-host symposia annually, featuring panel discussions of top experts who will cover the topics highlighted in the research papers.
  • MAPI will make available much of its previously member-only research to senior-level Chamber executives.

The first symposium is expected to be held this fall at the U.S. Chamber’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
