Verizon Introduce Hiring Our Heroes App

Veteran and Military Spouse Employment Program Goes Mobile
with One-Stop Shop Free App Developed by Verizon

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program and Verizon announced today the release of the Hiring Our Heroes app, a mobile one-stop shop developed to help veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and military spouses searching for employment. The Hiring Our Heroes app gathers all of the program’s resources in one free, easy-to-use tool – enabling military members and their families to search for jobs and access free employment resources on virtually all mobile devices.
“Through the Hiring Our Heroes mobile app, Verizon has helped our program take the next step in digital outreach to veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and military spouses looking for career opportunities,” said Eric Eversole, executive director of Hiring Our Heroes. “If you are a military member searching for work, this free app now places the full spectrum of our employment tools at your fingertips.”

Over the last year, Hiring Our Heroes has developed several online programs to better address the systemic employment issues facing veterans, transitioning servicemembers and military spouses. These include a resume tool to help military servicemembers better brand themselves, a jobs portal that allows veterans and transitioning servicemembers to search for employment opportunities in America’s fastest-growing job markets and industries, and a virtual mentorship program that connects military men and women with experienced mentors. These online resources are all featured on the Hiring Our Heroes app, which is now available at no cost in Apple’s App Store and on Google Play.

Since Hiring Our Heroes began in March 2011, more than 1,200 companies have hired 20,200 veterans and military spouses as a result of more than 600 hiring fairs. In March 2012, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber Foundation, and Capital One launched Hiring 500,000 Heroes, a national campaign to engage the business community in committing to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. Thus far, more than 1,000 businesses of all sizes have pledged to hire 260,000 heroes toward this goal. To date, 119,000 hires have been confirmed.
