WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce announced Lafayette College President Arthur J. Rothkopf would serve as Senior Vice President and Counselor to the President. Rothkopf will assist on several initiatives including workforce development, education, and transportation as well as assist with the Chamber's new initiative on capital markets.

"Arthur's skills and experience will be invaluable as we address the important challenges facing the business community – finding workers with the right skills, rebuilding our nation's infrastructure, and protecting the capital markets," said Thomas Donohue, Chamber President and CEO.

As president of Lafayette College, located in Easton, Penn., Rothkopf has recently concluded a

record-breaking capital campaign, doubling the liberal arts school's endowment to $600 million. Prior to joining Lafayette, Rothkopf served as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation under President George H.W. Bush. He also served as general counsel of the department. In addition to his education and transportation experience, Rothkopf handled tax and regulatory matters as a senior partner with the Washington law firm of Hogan & Hartson.

"At a time when business-bashing has become a popular sport, Arthur's wisdom, keen intellect and corporate legal experience will provide a reasoned influence," said Donohue. "He can provide a unique perspective with combined knowledge from academia, public service, law and finance."

Rothkopf is currently Board Chair of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. He recently served as Board Chair of the Association of Independent College and Universities of Pennsylvania. He is Vice President of The Pennsylvania Society, serves on the Board of Trustees of the Lehigh Valley Hospital and the Lehigh Valley Partnership, and was a director of the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority. He is a board member of Insurance Services Office, a company providing data and analytic services, and Bristol West Holdings, a NYSE-listed company in the automobile insurance market.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region.
