U.S. Chamber to Open Center for Advanced Technology & Innovation in Silicon Valley Under Leadership of David Chavern

Tuesday, April 1, 2014 - 11:00am

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced today that it is establishing a Center for Advanced Technology & Innovation, with offices in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C., to better meet the needs of its tech members around the country, and to tell the story that America’s economic future can be even brighter than its past if we make the right policy choices.

The President of the Center will be David Chavern, who most recently was the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Chamber. “Washington is far away from most of the tech sector – both physically and culturally,” says Chavern. “We must be closer to our tech members, and also give them greater access to the incredible resources we have to meet their needs and tell their story.”

“David has served his time in an extremely challenging and often unsung job,” said Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “The tech sector is his passion, and it is an area where we need his entrepreneurial spirit and experienced leadership. The opportunities of – and challenges to – the ‘new economy’ need to be met, and there is simply no one better placed to do that than David.”

Chavern was COO of the Chamber for more than seven years, during a period of unprecedented growth in its revenues and activity, in one of most challenging times in recent memory for public policy.

Chavern has a history of successfully establishing new Chamber enterprises. He personally started the Chamber’s Center for Capital Market Competitiveness, which has become a leading voice in the regulation of U.S. capital markets. More recently, he was the Founder and President of the Chamber’s Center for Women in Business. He continues to lead the Chamber’s manufacturing initiative, where he has become a strong public voice in support of the U.S. manufacturing sector.

The Chamber is currently evaluating office locations and staffing needs for the new Center.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
