Long-time education reformer, Betsy DeVos, is President Donald Trump’s pick to run the Department of Education.

“Betsy DeVos will be great for kids!” said Michigan Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Richard Studley in a letter to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee:

First, as a visionary volunteer leader, Betsy served as a member of the Michigan Chamber's Board of Directors and Executive Committee. I know from personal experience that she is a good listener, always does her homework, and asks the right questions to improve organizational performance. Second, in Michigan and across the country Betsy has been a strong advocate for improving education quality with an emphasis on meeting the needs of students and parents.

In Michigan, we are blessed with many outstanding teachers and school administrators who work in traditional and charter schools. Our experience with parental choice of schools has been positive and families across Michigan have clearly benefited. I have no doubt that as Secretary of Education Betsy will continue to be a strong advocate for students and parents. As an employer, she knows the importance of a strong K-12 Education system to prepare high school graduates to enter the workforce or be successful in college.
