The Atlanta-based 5th District has been vacant since Lewis’ death in July, and the winner of the runoff will follow in the civil rights icon’s footsteps for less than a month, with only seven legislative days remaining on the congressional calendar before the term expires on Jan. 3. Afterward, state Sen. Nikema Williams (D) will serve a full term after winning the November election with 85%.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has reserved $2 million in an issue-advocacy ad campaign boosting Perdue and Loeffler by encouraging them to “keep fighting for pandemic relief.” The TV ad will run on broadcast for nine days in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah, and for 14 days on cable television.
