A seasoned power professional, with an illustrious career spanning nearly four decades, Dr. Sinha has held pivotal leadership roles across the power sector value chain. Dr Sinha holds a PhD from IIT Delhi, a master’s degree in business law from National Law School, Bangalore and is also professionally trained as an Electrical Engineer. He has more than 30 years of experience in developing and setting up green field projects in India and abroad and has been at the helm of India’s largest integrated power company, successfully turning around multiple different ventures in his tenure.

Under his current leadership, Tata Power is undergoing a profound transformation, transitioning from a century old power utility into a new-aged sustainable, technology oriented and customer centric green energy solutions company. The company has made a substantial shift towards renewable energy with nearly 40% of its portfolio as currently clean and green and it aims to become carbon neutral by 2045.

Dr Sinha has also been instrumental in implementing power distribution reforms and innovative technology initiatives across multiple different power utilities in India, achieving record AT&C loss reduction and turning around ailing discoms. His contributions to this transformation have been recognised at Tata Power’s Delhi Discom which was recently awarded the prestigious Deming Prize, becoming the first utility globally to be honoured. Tata Power’s 4 Odisha discoms similarly have ranked among India’s most efficient and customer centric discoms since takeover.

An ardent supporter and practitioner of working with the Government and Government companies under Public Private Partnership, Dr Sinha has led projects like the setting up of the 1,050 MW Maithon project in Jharkhand along with DVC – a Government of India undertaking. He is currently closely involved in the ongoing partnership with Bhutan for developing more than 5,000 MW of clean and green energy projects in the country for cross border energy security in the region.

Currently chairing CII’s National Committee on Power, Dr Sinha is also Honorary Professor at University of Warwick, Visiting Research Associate at MIT and has been nominated to the External Advisory Board at MIT’s Energy Initiative. Dr Sinha has also been nominated as a founding member of the Advisory Group for the WRI Polsky Centre for the Global Energy Transition.

His contributions to the energy sector have earned him recognition from esteemed publications such as BT, Forbes, EY, and Fortune, establishing him as one of the industry’s best CEOs.

An avid sports enthusiast, Dr Sinha loves playing badminton and golf.
