Maryland Supreme Court holds that local governments may not bring state common-law tort claims against energy companies for damages caused by global greenhouse gas emissions

The court holds not only that federal law bars the claims, but that the claims would not be cognizable under Maryland law even if they were not displaced or preempted by federal law.
