H.E. Jens Hanefeld

Jens Hanefeld became Germany's Ambassador to the United States in 2025, after serving as Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Observer to the African Union. A career diplomat who joined the Foreign Service in 1991, he previously served in Washington as Deputy Chief of Mission (2009–2014). From 2014 to 2024 he was seconded to the Volkswagen Group as Senior Vice President for International, European and Trade Policy, giving him a strong business perspective.
