Joseph Schatz

Joe Schatz is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of POLITICO, a role he took on in February 2025 to drive innovation in the newsroom's offerings for POLITICO Pro subscribers. A longtime POLITICO editor, he helped build its states operation and previously served as Executive Editor, Platforms and Operations. He first joined POLITICO in 2012 as tax editor on its new Pro finance and tax team. Before that he spent nearly a decade at Congressional Quarterly covering tax, budget and banking and later as senior economic writer, work that earned the National Press Club's Sandy Hume award in 2010. He has also reported from Zambia and Myanmar. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
