To the Members of the United States House of Representatives:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the House amendment to the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act (H.R. 6644). We commend the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson, Chairman French Hill, and Ranking Member Maxine Waters for strengthening this important legislation that would increase housing supply and address affordability.
Increasing housing supply is critical to addressing the principal cause of today’s housing unaffordability; a nationwide shortage of 4.7 million homes. Expanding supply remains the most effective and sustainable way to improve affordability, support workforce mobility, and strengthen local economies.
The amendment also removes provisions that would have discouraged capital and limited flexibility for investment. These changes would help unlock housing construction, support workforce mobility, and strengthen economic growth.
The U.S. Chamber stands ready to work with Congress to advance policies that expand housing supply, and we urge the House to pass the amendment to the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
Executive Vice President, Chief Policy Officer,
and Head of Strategic Advocacy
U.S. Chamber of Commerce
