‘He will undoubtedly use his gifted legal mind to help our country sort through our toughest questions for years to come,’ says Donohue
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement today on the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to be associate justice of the Supreme Court:
“We congratulate Judge Neil Gorsuch on his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. The American free-enterprise system depends on the stable rule of law guaranteed by the Constitution. Although this debate has been contentious, Judge Gorsuch’s qualifications have never been in doubt, and he will undoubtedly use his gifted legal mind to help our country sort through our toughest questions for years to come. We commend the U.S. Senate for overcoming the first partisan filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee to restore the court to a full nine justices.”
Background on the Chamber’s efforts:
- Ahead of votes to advance the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, the U.S. Chamber sent individual letters to all 100 senators indicating that votes related to the nomination may be considered in the annual How They Voted scorecard. The move to send this type of notice, signed by our president and CEO Tom Donohue, to legislators on an individual basis, indicated the degree of importance we applied to these historic votes.
- Tuesday’s Key Vote Alert was sent to the Friends of the U.S. Chamber, the Chamber’s grassroots network, generating over 30,000 emails to the U.S. Senate in support of Gorsuch’s confirmation.
- Additionally, the Chamber highlighted the key vote through a limited digital buy in key states ahead of Thursday’s cloture motion.
