WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue today released the following statement applauding House and Senate passage of legislation to address the opioid epidemic:

“We applaud Congress for putting partisanship aside and passing legislation that our nation critically needs to combat this crisis. We have heard from families who have lost loved ones, communities that have been torn apart, and businesses that can’t find workers. This bill is a far-reaching solution that addresses the many causes of the crisis and also supports prevention, recovery, and treatment. There is still much more to be done, and we will continue working with our partners in the private and public sectors to do our part to bring an end to this epidemic.”

The U.S. Chamber has been engaged at all levels trying to identify and find solutions to end the opioid crisis. The Chamber issued a “key vote” letter in strong support of this legislation, which can be found here. In addition, the Chamber has hosted two summits to hear from stakeholders and continues to explore ways the business community can help address the crisis.
